Who’s That Girl? (La la lala lala)
I'm Chencia. Pronounced Chintz-ee-uh.
I hail from the big city of Houston in the greatest state of Texas where I was born and raised. Writing has been my passion since I was a young girl, when my subject matter was visions of middle school drama with my group of girlfriends.
I entered the world of publishing in May 2016 with an erotic novella that set the stage for a career in which I craft engaging tales of Black women being loved up on.
I write for women who love to read but are tired of never seeing themselves in the story. I write unambiguously, unapologetically Black characters who find love any and everywhere. Black women deserve it all and representation matters, which is why it’s important for me to regularly show fat Black women being loved out loud. When it comes to the multiverse of romance, if the sub-genre exists, then the way I see it is there is no reason why we can't exist there as well. I'm proud to be a part of an indie and self-published author community that consistently puts their foot in their work to produce some of the best writing I have been privileged to read.
Professional Biography (100 words):
Chencia C. Higgins is just a girl from Texas writing about sassy, southern women finding love. In 2019 she won an Emma award for her debut paranormal romance Janine: His True Alpha, and in 2022 her traditionally published debut D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding was named one of the best romances of the year by the New York Times. When she isn't daydreaming about imaginary people, Chencia can be found with her nose in a book (or two, or three), saving recipes on Pinterest for things she’ll never make, and dreaming of traveling even further south for the winter.
